Living Room Inspirations

One of my dear friends is ready to redecorate her space.  I am in the process of gathering living room inspiration photos to give her an idea of what design direction she wants to pursue.  She is feminine, loves J Crew, Kate Spade, Marc Jacobs and Anthropologie.  She isn't afraid of colors or glamour and has a flair for the dramatic.

Bringing the Outside In

I love the mountains; the trees, the waterfalls, the fresh, crisp, cool mountain air.  And I generally love to enjoy this during the day and then retire to a toasty, warm fluffy bed inside at night!  So what could be a better compromise than the faux bois trend?  If you have not noticed it yet, start looking around, it seems to be everywhere right now!  Here are some of my favorite picks:)

My Blue Period

I find myself consumed with navy blue lately.  I recently got a new sofa for my downstairs living room that is a pale, smokey grayish-blue linen, and I am searching for navy blue fabrics to use as accent pillows.  I am thinking a solid, inky dark navy blue in a very decadent fabric, such as mohair, and then cording the pillow with a caramel colored leather to draw on the rich blue and brown colors of the room.  My navy blue fabric search is a bit more elusive than I was anticipating.  There are many choices in black/noir and many blue fabrics, but the blues are overwhelmingly in the light to medium blue spectrum.  I vow to keep you updated on my search!  Meanwhile, please enjoy these luscious navy blue rooms.

Objects of My Affection

Judy Jackson Vases via Anthropologie - i am positively crushing on these and must go to my local shop to see if they have them:)
Cotton Throw via Dash & Albert - i have one in the sienna stripe, but am thinking i need this one for my downstairs living room.  so cozy and comfy, machine washable, my dogs nails never get caught in this and at around $60 totally affordable!
Savon de Marseille Liquid Soap from La Compagnie de Provence - i have to confess i really bought this soap because i love the simple, bold design of the glass bottle.  however i was pleasantly surprised  with how much i am enjoying this luxurious soap. the texture is like liquid velvet and the verbena scent is light, fresh and sophisticated.  husband likes it too!
Le Creuset via Williams Sonoma - my set is getting a workout with all of this cold weather - pot roast, spaghetti sauces, soups etc.  i have several pieces in dune, but i am coveting the new color, ocean!
Victoria Hagan Interior Portraits via Amazon - i bought this the other day and i cannot put it down.  hagan's refined, smartly edited interiors are beyond chic.

G-Girl Style

so occasionally (read often) i like to indulge my inner teenage girl and watch some cw - more specifically, gossip girl.  now truly the reason i started watching the show was on the recommendation of a friend who mentioned the droolworthy fashion.  most episodes i covet serena's edgy looks and lily's effortless style, however  i soon started to notice the chic set design as well.  i am 100% smitten with the van der woodsen apartment.  the living room is the current inspiration for my downstairs living area.  i dream nightly of those fabulous ralph lauren spindle chairs.

note:  the gossip girl set was designed by the esteemed christina tonkin who also designed sets for sex & the city.  her website is an all you can see buffet of chic interiors.  http://christinatonkininteriors.com/

Beginnings

i have lived in my house for three years and still don't have anything in my entryway.  why?  you've only got one shot at that first impression.  i want it to be young, modern, sophisticated and fresh.  i want it to welcome people and say someone effortlessly stylish lives here.  in a word...chic.  this is my rough draft.

i like the juxtaposition of the natural, organically shaped lamp and the bold, graphic rug with the glamour of the mirror.  what do you think?
